Entertaiment is the act of entertaining, and may include activities such as playing games, watching movies or TV, listening to music, dancing, or creating visual art. It can be enjoyed on any scale, from a single private entertainment, such as choosing and playing a game or music to entertain oneself, to a banquet with multiple sources of entertainment, to performances intended for thousands. Often entertainment serves a social or cultural purpose, such as in the case of ceremonial occasions, celebrations and religious festivals. Entertaiment is derived from the medieval Latin inter tenere, from the prefix inter meaning “inside” and the suffix -tenere, extending back to the Indo-European root ten, meaning “stretch.”
